I have been sewing since I was a young child and have always been interested in crafts. I began patchwork and quilting as a seventeen year old back in the seventies and have never stopped!

I was lucky enough to find a group of like-minded women and was one of the early members of the ‘Studio Quilters’ group in Borehamwood Hertfordshire. During the 1990’s I studied for the City & Guilds Certificate in Patchwork & Quilting and also Preparing Working Designs and whilst attending Southgate College in North London I was asked to take over this course and run it, which I did for several years. As part of this opportunity, I was offered the chance to train as a Further Education Tutor and completed my F.A.E.T.C qualification.

Early in 2000 I was asked by a local school to come and teach Textiles to senior school students. Because I had not had the opportunity to stay on at school myself and then go to university, I did not have the necessary qualifications to have Qualified Teacher Status. The school encouraged me to enrol for a degree course. So, whilst working full time as a teacher, I then embarked upon a four year part time degree in Fashion studies at the London School of Fashion (later to become part of the University of the Arts)

I later transferred to the University of Hertfordshire to finish my degree which I had changed to an Applied Art degree in Textiles. Finally, after five years of study I gained my BA (Hons) degree. I then had the small task of studying for a further year to gain my QTS qualification. Finally I was a qualified teacher in my late forties!

Sadly after ten years of teaching key stage 3, 4 and 5 I became thoroughly disillusioned with all of the OFSTED nonsense and quit teaching. This gave me my free time back and I was able to develop my practice in all areas of textile work. My time at university opened up my eyes to many techniques that I had never tried before such as wet felting, Nuno felting, sublimation printing, transfer printing, lino printing, screen printing and many more. I also had time to re-discover the joys of P & Q.

In 2014 my husband and I re-located to Mid Wales and with my own, purpose built, studio to work in, I have never been so prolific in my work. I now have time for teaching workshops and I travel far and wide giving talks on my work.
